Welcome To Your Family Time - A Season Of Life - A Time Of Reunion!
Through the years we learn to cherish not only the seasons of the year, but the seasons of life...weddings, births, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and family reunions, recognizing all the joy that our relatives and friends bring to our lives when gathered together in celebration. It is those blessed life events that make one realize how important your family and friends are and the value of making an extra special effort to spend needed time with loved ones, no matter how busy our lives are with day to day activities.
We all celebrate family reunions and get togethers, if not in some formal way, but in a way of gathering surrounded by a life event. In the past months, I personally have experienced several "reunions" where life events brought me to a place where I reunited with relatives and family friends that I had not seen for many years and my children had never met.
Still today my children are reminiscing about their Uncle Kevin's Wedding or the dinner get together with their Great, Great Uncle Ray in Fresno, California. While one of these reunions was planned and revolved around a beautiful wedding in sunny Florida...the other just happened to fall into place as we unexpectedly had a kid sporting event that took place in another part of California. When we had a spare moment we looked up Jeff's Great Uncle to say we were in the same town for a day. Even though we had not seen Uncle Ray in 14 years, he dropped everything on a minutes notice to have dinner with us and to meet 3 of our 4 children for the first time. Why?...Because that is what families do! They gather together, celebrating their common bond of family.
Although these reunions were so meaningful for my family, my most favorite gathering of the year occurred this past spring when we received a call from one of our relatives, inviting us to an impromptu family reunion which was going to be held here in Southern California. It turns out that Jeff's cousin was talking to his great aunt as she was approaching her 90th birthday and asked her what he could possibly give her that was special for this incredible milestone. Her reply was...a family reunion! His cousin's first thoughts were ...oh boy, I am in the middle of remodeling my house and I have this going on and that and how can my wife and I squeeze this in! Then as he reflected on his great aunt and her most thoughtful request for her 90th birthday, he decided that family was too important and acted immediately. He said forget the invitations and personally called every relative in the family and gave them a date that was two weeks away. He called his favorite restaurant and ordered take out for a cast of thousands, decorated it beautifully on his tabletop, disguised some construction areas as modern art and nobody knew the difference! On the night of the reunion, I walked into their home and this is what I saw...children playing with cousins they never knew existed, camera flashes going off everywhere, relatives documenting hand drawn versions of a family tree while trying to keep everyone straight, phone numbers and addresses being passed, chatter, catching up, warmth and love, hugging, kissing and invites galore, and the most wonderful image of all was 90 year young Aunt June sitting on the sofa with the most beautiful smile on her face! And out of this love of family, a Davis family of about 60 family members reunited, some meeting for the first time, many coming from as far as Idaho, Washington, Northern California and even locally to honor a 90th birthday request which became a season of life celebration and a family reunited.
Family reunions come in all sizes and shapes and sometimes you don't even realize it is a reunion until later as we step through the circle of life events that happen all around us. Any season is a time for a family reunion because in the end they have the same result...family and friends coming together to break bread and relive past memories. As you go through the seasons of the year, don't forget that the seasons of life celebrations are worth every bit of effort that they sometimes take, even if the effort includes adjusting your schedule and missing a few soccer games or putting work on hold for a day or two. Take every opportunity to celebrate with those you love and don't blink as time passes way too quickly!
Come on in...boasting any occasion as a family reunion...as Setting Traditions Home Party makes it so easy for you and your family to celebrate any season...as we welcome you to your family time...a season of life...a time of reunion!
