How to Manage Your Time When Your Work At Home Online
The internet can be a dangerous waste of time. For example, you begin to surf
the internet looking for good information on list building. 3 hours later, you
have very little more information than when you began, and yet you are 3 hours
into the time you have to work online.
If you do not make a conscious effort to control your time online, you will probably not be able to get to a full time income. You will, in fact, probably not get to any level of income you desire, if you are not in control of your time.
When you get online each day, you must have a clear plan for what you are going to do. If you need to surf for information, set a time limit. If you have not found what you are looking for in a specified period of time, simply choose to finish another day or in another sitting. One thing that I find is helpful is that when I find information that is handy, or I run across ebooks that I want to read, I will save the information to my hard drive, and then at the end of the day, I will read all the information at one time.
Email is another time-robber. It is easy to sit down to answer emails and find yourself 2 hours later, still trying to catch up. You do not have to read every email. Read the ones that are important, answer the ones that need to be answered, and then get on with your productive time.
Another aspect of the email trap is when you leave your email window open, and get a notification every time you get an email. If you stop what you are doing every time an email comes in, not only do you lose the time you spent reading the email and switching windows, but you also lose concentration for whatever task you were doing before you checked the email. It can take several minutes for you to completely refocus on the work at hand, and by then there may be another email. Don’t be afraid to simply shut the email down, and check it periodically.
Another thing that is critical here is scheduling time to work online. You cannot simply hope to spend a few hours a day online and actually build a business. You need to schedule the time to work, just like you do with your regular job, and then follow through on that commitment to yourself. If you do not, it will be practically impossible to meet just about any goal online.
